The Rochester Associa on of Black ournalists RAB will host its “Salute to Excellence Gala” on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 7 -10pm, at the historic Perkins Mansion, 494 East Avenue in Rochester, New York.
This is also a fundraising event for RABj’s “Wyoma Best Scholarship Fund”, which assists college-bound students majoring in communica ons or journalism. During the Gala, Rodney A. oung and Cynthia L. Benjamin will be honored for their tremendous dedica on and outstanding contribu ons to the journalism and communica ons industry in Rochester, New York.
Rodney Allen Young, a na ve of Rochester, has spent the past 15 years as Senior Rela onship Manager and Coordinator of the African-American Leadership Development Program (AALDP) for United Way of Greater Rochester, Inc. In this role, Young works with numerous volunteers to recruit, train, and place individuals in policymaking posi ons on not-for-pro t boards and community development projects. He is an avid, self-taught photographer who focuses his lens on portraits of African- Americans in Rochester. In 2009, the Black Storytelling League awarded Young the ames and Bessie Hamm Civic Award for telling the Rochester story through his cap va ng photography work.
