Mayor Lovely A. Warren wants all of Rochester’s residents to live their lives to the fullest – and this means that no senior citizen should have to go hungry.
Statistics show that older adults in Rochester don’t get the healthy foods they need and aren’t making full use of the resources that are available to them. In fact, 74 percent of eligible older adults in Monroe and Livingston counties do not receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
“Our senior citizens have helped build our city into what it is today,” Mayor Warren said. “By helping them live their golden years to the fullest, we will have taken another step in our efforts to create more jobs, safer neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for the City of Rochester.”
The City of Rochester has joined forces with Foodlink, the Monroe County Office of Aging, LifeSpan and Legal Assistance of Western New York to help make senior citizens aware of these resources and how to obtain them.
