It is not hard to find people in the 21st century who find Christian rap to be the ultimate oxymoron- an uncomfortable mixture of sacred and secular that leads people into covert apostasy. But in a genre that has taken the brunt of criticism from more traditional voices of Christian religion there has been a shift to prominence and progress, most recently when Christian rapper Lecrae took home the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance. Christian rap has gained much traction among millennial believers, and a new documentary authored and anchored in the city of Rochester is aiming to show that this genre will stand the test of time.
Bryan Little is the director of a new documentary set to be released in Fall 2015 called “Making Jesus Famous.” It was the brainchild of Little and a circle of his closest artist friends in the city of Rochester. He says the documentary at its heart is about evolution- both in music and perspective.
“I [want] people to see what happens when rap artists meet Jesus and no longer rap about sex, drugs and money. I [want] to show how the gospel has transformed their lives and share their life stories on how they have changed people’s lives by the message of the gospel in rap music and how they are now reaching the world,” he said.
