Chartered in April of 2004, the Rochester Association of Black Journalists is an affiiate of the NABJ, an organization of 3,000 journalists, students and media related professionals that advocates for diversity in newsrooms and in news content.

The Rochester Association of Black Journalists strives to help ensure diversity in area media and accurate, balanced coverage of communities of color while serving as a resource for both established and aspiring communicators of (African) decent. It is a professional organization whose membership includes journalists from area print, TV, radio and online outlets. Also, public relations and communications professionals serve as members, along with educators and anyone else in a media or media-related profession. Student memberships are available for those who are training to begin journalism as a career.

The Rochester Association of Black Journalists celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a Brunch held at WXXI-PBS TV 21 on Saturday November 1, 2014. This fim http://youtu.be/TgahBfYFjDA was shown as part of the well-attended celebration which included performances by Frederick Douglass (Robert “djed” Sneed) and Harriet Tubman (Maggie Moore Holley), Music by Khalid Saleem and Ramon “Sunshine” Perez and lots more.

Richard J. McCollough is President, Joanne Gordon is VP of Broadcast, Kevin Hicks is VP of Print, Gary McLendon is Treasurer, Rhonda Austin is Secretary and Dolores Orman is Parliamentarian.
