Rochester will be a classical music mecca August 11 through August 16 when 100 musicians of African descent from the United States, Canada and South America participate in the 2015 Gateways Music Festival.

That is the largest number of musicians in the 22-year history of the biennial event. They will perform in various venues, including the Hochstein School of Music and Dance, the Eastman School of Music’s Hatch Hall, houses of worship, the atrium of Rochester City Hall and Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre.

All of the festival events are free and open to the public.

Guests will include Anthony McGill, who was appointed principal clarinet with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra last September after being principal clarinet with the Metropolitan Opera orchestra for 10 years, and The Harlem Quartet, an award-winning string ensemble based in New York City.
